Junior Girls Soccer

St Gregory’s 11 defeated Macarthur Anglican 0

A great game against strong opposition. Macarthur Anglican worked well in defence, stopping many of our goals. St Greg’s worked very well as a team, passing the ball and moving quickly up the field. Some great teamwork for a win 11-0.

Junior Cricket

St Gregory’s were defeated 123 runs to 71 runs by Macarthur Anglican

Despite some good batting and bowling, Macarthur were the better team on the day. The St Greg’s team showed glimpses of enthusiastic fielding and encouragement from each other.

Special mention needs to go to Oliver Trevitt who scored 12 runs from 2 overs. Another player of note was Will Spencer who scored 4 runs.

On the bowling front, Lawson Sutton took 2 wickets and Charlie Farias took 1 wicket.

Thanks to all parents who were able to come and watch as the players are very appreciative of your presence.

Junior Oz Tag

St Gregory’s 10 defeated Macarthur Anglican 5

St Gregory’s showed some great scrambling in defence and creativity in attack. It was a great performance by the team with a couple of key players absent due to Rugby League trials. This means that St Gregory’s maintain their undefeated streak for the year. Well done!

Junior Basketball

St Gregory’s 32 defeated Macarthur Anglican 0

A convincing display of basketball by the St Gregory’s side. The team worked really well together to keep the opposition to nil and to score over 30 points.

Special mentions need to go to Anthony Michael, Zoe-Annissa Zorbas and Harrison McInerney for scoring valuable points; Lachlan for his fantastic steals created from his defensive pressure and to Baxter Snushall for scoring 14 points for the game.

Well done team and thank you to all who came down and supported the team. The children really love seeing you on the sideline.

Senior Girls Soccer

St Gregory's 0 were defeated by Macarthur Anglican 7

On Wednesday 11 March, the Senior Girls’ Soccer team played their third match of the season against Macarthur Anglican School. As always, the girls played with great determination and spirit. They came very close to scoring a number of goals but luck had abandoned them. The girls from Macarthur capitalised on their chances and managed to score some excellent goals. The players remained positive and kept trying to the very end of the game.

Even though the girls have only played a handful of games, there has been a noticeable improvement in their dribbling, passing and teamwork. This was reinforced by the parents on the sideline.

Senior Cricket

St Gregory’s 1/56 defeated Macarthur Anglican 1/44

The senior boy's cricket team continued their undefeated season with a comfortable win against Macarthur Anglican School. St Greg’s bowled first and continued to assert themselves as an exceptional bowling and fielding unit. They bowled tight lines and good lengths that did not allow Macarthur Anglican to compile a big total.

Connor was the only wicket-taker with many chances falling just out of reach or going over the boy’s heads. Their efforts in chasing down those balls and movement in the field also assisted in restricting Macarthur Anglican.

St Greg’s never looked troubled with the chase as Ethan, who played a crafty and elegant 16* not out, along with Cohen (6) who started the innings strongly. With the first wicket falling at 1/52, Zane (1* not out) and Marc (3* not out) saw us finish the innings with another win for the maroon and blue!

Well done boys and great efforts in the field! Wickets won't always come, but drying up the runs makes the chase a lot easier!

Senior Oz Tag

St Gregory’s 7 defeated Macarthur Anglican 6.

On Wednesday March 11, our Senior Oz Tag Team played against Macarthur Anglican. From the first kick-off it was obvious our opposition was very determined to try and win the game.

With many of our team members absent due to Rugby League Diocesan Trials, it was always going to be a tough match. Our reserves Joseph Hallaby and Benjamin Dean stepped in and did a great job!

Going into the second half we had a convincing lead 6-1 but Macarthur Anglican came backfiring with a few quick tries. Try scorers included Olivia Jardine, Harry Hoyle, Cameron Newell, Liam Gallagher and a double whammy from Connor Potts.

To date, we remain undefeated; great effort team!

Senior Basketball

St Gregory’s 48 defeated Macarthur Anglican 12

It was great to see all players getting involved in this match. Charlotte Richards and Annalise Elasi played a great defensive game by creating turnovers that resulted in points from the effective shooting from both Jack and Brad Smith. Lee Ombina scored a buzzer-beater right on three-quarter time which was exciting.

Well done on a great team effort!!!

OTHER SPORT NEWS

Monday March 9, 14 swimmers represented our College at the Wollongong Diocese Finals. All St Greg’s swimmers should be commended on representing our College with great determination and sportsmanship.

Throughout the day there were thrilling races, even some places were determined by 2 tenths of a second.

Well done to Denham Tsaglas, Alexandra Nothdurfter and Ivy Smith who all impressively qualified in multiple events to represent the Wollongong Diocese at Mackillop. Special mention to Ivy Smith who competed strongly against girls that were more than 2 years older than her. Thank you to all who came down and supported the team.

On March 11, the Wollongong Diocese U/11 and Open Rugby League Trials were held at St Gregory’s College. We had a total of eight talented boys from the Junior School trial to be selected in the Wollongong Team. Six of our students were successful in making the Wollongong Team. Is this cancelled? This is a great result for the College, as the boys competed against students from 35 schools in the Wollongong Diocese.

Well done to the following boys who were successful in making the Diocesan teams:
