Writer's Workshops
Students in Years 3 – 6 participate in Writer’s Workshops weekly. Explicit teaching of language features is programmed. The focus in Term 1 has been on Poetry. In particular, writing poetry using metaphors and personification.
Check out some of our clever poets!
The Waterslide by Benjamin Dean
In the raging ocean
I see something in the distance
Spitting out innocent children
With its extremely fast shooting mechanism.
It drops children to their deaths
It shoots out kids all day long
I can hear it splashing and shooting around.
The Flying Fox by Geena Hokayem
In the evening I see a magpie
With its wings flying through the sky.
It has children in its claws
And he will be moving all day long.
I can hear it going crazy with the children.
The Flying Fox by Micaela de Almeida
In the beautiful sunny afternoon
I see a bird flying far
With its wings flapping hard.
It goes as fast as a cheetah
And it hits the end as it comes back
I can hear it run along the path.
The Pool by Luca McDonald & Mason Ruiters
In the late afternoon
I see a shark in the far ocean
With its mate
It’s drawing people in
And it swallows people up.
I can hear it chomp.
The Swings by Levi Thorpe
In the modern days,
I see a duo of jellyfish,
With its metallic stingers holding it up,
It lures in children with its beautiful colours,
And makes them never want to leave,
I can hear it moan.
