Staff Profile

Tim Whelan | Co-ordinator of Outdoor Education

When did you join The Friends' School?

2005

How long have you been teaching?

I started Teaching in 2003 so that's 18 years.  I worked as a guide on school outdoor ed programs for the proceeding 5 years which was a fantastic insight into various programs and methodologies.

What is your favourite thing you have done this year?

On the Year 10 Winter Skills program, we had spent some time in the afternoon carving a round table and bench seating in the ice and snow.  As the sun set and the stars began their crisp twinkle across the sky the group cooked, ate and shared a few stories.  What a lovely moment.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Anywhere human impact is negligible.  It is magical to ski across an icefield with views extending hundreds of kms in all directions and only hear, see, feel and smell natural rhythms.

Who is your hero?

Tigger; bubbly, energetic and always positive.
