AFL

Boys Senior Seconds Exhibition

An excellent contingent of Year 10, 11 & 12 boys represented Friends' at the Football Senior Seconds Exhibition in August. The team put in a valiant effort but Guilford Young won the day in the end. Great work team!

Girls' 7/8 AFL

The Year 7/8 girls had an amazing season, only losing two rostered games: one to Fahan and one to Sacred Heart. They were lucky enough to play in the Grand Final against Sacred Heart, dominate the play and take home the premiership trophy for The Friends’ School for the first time.

Congratulations girls, for all of the hard work you put into this season and good luck for season 2022!

Soccer

Friends' had three teams competing in the end-of-term (Term 3) SATIS Years 7 to 10 boys soccer finals. The strong number of Friends' teams on display was matched with some excellent performances, exemplary sportsmanship and commendable school spirit. The games were part of a new finals format and we look forward to having more events like this in the future.

Congratulations to all three teams, with the Year 8 team winning their final against Sacred Heart and the title. The Year 9 and Year 10 teams had close contests with both teams drawing against St Virgils. With those Friends' teams finishing second on the table at the end of the roster, the title went to the St Virgils teams for 2021.

Thanks to SATIS for organising this finals event, to all the coaches for their efforts, the parents and supporters, and the players for their fantastic seasons.

Rowing

During the first week of the Term 3 school holidays, we had 42 students register for ourSculling Skills program. This program is an introduction program to rowing, which acts as a wonderful opportunity for Year 6 students to come together. These students are both current students at Friends, along with external students who will start at Friends in Year 7next year. The program provides wonderful opportunities to build connections and grow friendships, while gaining confidence in being on the water and understanding the dynamics of rowing. Each day provided a new challenge for our beginner rowers, yet they embraced it and advanced in style. The group was amazing and advanced from basic rowing knowledge to balancing a single scull, then standing in a boat, to eventually gaining confidence to row on their own. Finally, they worked as a team in a Quadruple Scull by participating in a mini-regatta on the last day. Thank you to everyone who helped to support this wonderful program and ensure it ran smoothly.

Anthony Edwards - Head of Rowing

As an open rower, coaching our beginner rowers and seeing how far they have come in just one week has been really exciting. Sculling Skills is a great opportunity for students not only to gain skills within a single scull and quad, but to become a part of the welcoming community that is Friends’ School rowing and make connections with both other kids their age and older students like myself. It has been really great getting to know all the year 6’sand see their personalities become more prominent across the course of the week as they threw themselves into our rowing culture. The other coaches and myself have noticed some real talent in the group this year which is extremely exciting for the future of Friends Rowing.
