LIBRARY

This past week we have introduced access to our library catalogue for students while they are in the Library using iPads. This has been most helpful for our Junior School students, in particular, who may not come to the Library with their own devices on which to search the catalogue.

During their library sessions last week, the K-2 classes were all introduced to Orbit - the specially designed library interface which allows students to easily discover items held by the Library. Using the iPads, students were quickly searching the catalogue and finding items of interest. It was most satisfying to see our youngest students acquire the skills needed to transfer the information from the catalogue, indicating the location of an item, to the shelves themselves, and find the book they were searching for in its location. We were all pleased to view the students’ excitement and sense of achievement in accomplishing this task.

The Year 3-6 classes were all provided with a ‘refresher session’ in the use of Orbit with the iPads and were also able to conduct their own searches during their time in the Library this past week. These iPads will continue to be available for use by students whenever they are in the Library.

We like to recognise special events in the Dr Ian Grant Library by creating eye-catching displays. This week we are marking Remembrance Day with our presentation of red paper poppies along with relevant book titles that are available for loan.

As the term draws to a close, please remember to return any outstanding items that you may have - library books and textbooks. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
