HEAD OF SECONDARY SCHOOL

The process to successfully plan for the future requires forethought and skills that are both complex and difficult to master. These skills, however, are invaluable to the growth and development of our students and their character. Furthermore, these skills enable students to achieve at their absolute best, whether it's academically, in co-curricular or in any aspect of life outside of school.

This term, the Wellbeing program began with a focus on allowing students to reflect on the tumultuous year that they have had, and to think about the lessons they had learned from the year. These lessons could pertain to their character, their learning style or anything else they discovered about themselves over the year.

Remembrance Day is a timely reminder of the importance of reflection for us as a community. The lessons learnt from the sacrifices made enable us to plan for a better future. For our students, the reflective phase is an important aspect of planning as it informs the areas that they will choose to focus on to improve. Reflection helps our students to narrow down what they learnt from their experience and enhance their capacity to make effective change in their lives.

Once students have narrowed down their learning, it becomes the foundation from which they can begin to look to the future and plan for their continued growth. Over the next couple of weeks, students will be working in House Mentor time to make plans for 2022. These plans will focus on helping them to improve on an aspect of themselves that they have learnt more about next year. From these plans, they will set goals to ensure that they can determine a measurable impact on their lives.
