Swimming

During the first week back of Term 3, Jarrod Dyer from Year 11 was competing in swimming for School Sport Australia in Hobart. Once again, he did himself and Lake Illawarra High proud, and won Gold in the NSW Freestyle relay and Gold in the Medley relay. Not only that, he also achieved a Bronze in the 50m Butterfly and in the 100m Butterfly. We are so proud of your achievements, Jarrod. Don’t stop doing your thing.

Lake South Athletics Carnival

At the end of Term 2, a number of our students volunteered to assist at Lake South Primary School’s Athletics Carnival. The group consisted of students from our Sports Committee, Physical Activity and Sports Studies elective and Exploring Early Childhood students. This involvement extended the learning outcomes of the elective students, as the PASS students have recently completed ‘Event Management’ and the EEC students have completed the module ‘Play and the Developing Child’. The students were involved in assisting the teachers at various events, including measuring, recording and organising students and equipment, as well as running novelty activities. The students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, communication and organisational skills and their time, commitment and professionalism were very much appreciated by both the students and staff of Lake South Primary School. Well done. We are very proud of your efforts.

NAIDOC Touch Football

NAIDOC Week is a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Each year, Lake Illawarra High School participates in the NAIDOC Touch Football Knockout against schools in our local community. Our students travelled to Illawarra Sports High as one of the favourites to win the competition after finishing second in last year's tournament.

After a number of convincing victories, the students were finally defeated by an energetic and enthusiastic Warilla High School. All of the students that participated on the day represented the school and community with pride and outstanding sportsmanship.

A special mention to Samuel Mongta for designing the jerseys that were worn on the day. His talent is appreciated by all students and staff of Lake Illawarra High School.

Cross Country

On the 27th July, Year 7 student, Kelly Blair competed at the State Cross Country Carnival.

Kelly ran her little heart out, and came 14th in her age group. This is such a wonderful achievement for Kelly, we can only imagine how much she will keep growing and succeeding in the years to come.

Netball

Lake Illawarra High school's junior girls netball team took part in the Southern Illawarra Zone Netball Carnival, held at Berkeley Indoor stadium on Wednesday 27th of June.

The team played brilliantly and all should be congratulated on their teamwork and sportsmanship, we are extremely proud of how they represented our school.

Special thanks to Christine King who volunteered her time to be our teams official umpire, your guidance and expertise was greatly appreciated.
