General Information

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Promoting Positive Behaviour for Learning.

As a PBL school LIHS rewards students who are respectful, responsible and safe in every setting.

Our school values:

RESPECT ⎜RESPONSIBILITY ⎜SAFETY

We show RESPECT by being tolerant and accepting everyone, being polite and considerate of others. Using appropriate language and wearing school uniform.

We show RESPONSIBILITY by being at the right place, right time. Staying on task in class and being prepared. Following procedures and instructions including putting rubbish in the bin and caring for our surroundings.

We show SAFETY by following instructions. Following a 'hands off' policy and having a smoke free zone.

Weekly PBL Focus Values throughout Term 3 will continue to remain a high priority in all settings. Specific PBL lessons will also continue to occur so as to encourage active learning in classrooms around the school.

Focus of the Fortnight is: RESPONSIBILITY

We show responsibility when we are in the right place at the right time and are doing the right thing. ‘‘Every day counts”.

Students will be on time for school and their next class.

VIVOs will be rewarded to all students who are prompt to school/class and exhibit appropriate behaviour both in the classroom and the playground.

PBL Attendance

Be On Time. ‘‘Every Day Counts’’

LIHS Students Tremendous Start with Attendance

The strong links between high level student attendance, improved learning and high level academic success have been well researched and documented. It is essential that students are at school for the start of the school day, so that they do not miss the start of period 1. Students should arrive at school by 8:20am in the morning, so that they are ready to move off to roll call at 8:28am when the warning bell rings to start the school day. Being on time every day, limiting days away and bringing a note if you are away will be rewarded within our PBL Vivo scheme.

Students will be rewarded also for excellent attendance within the PBL 100% Attendance Draws.

Each fortnight one student's name is randomly drawn out from all who have had 100% attendance to class and school. $10 vouchers are provided from our local businesses. Thank you to Cafe Els Warilla, Pinocchio Pizzas, Domino's Shellharbour, and McDonalds Warilla.

Attendance draw

Year 8 Jen Annetts wins a $10 Els Cafe voucher. Well done, Jen.

NAIDOC Week 2018

'Because of her, we can.'

During Week 10 of Term 2, students and staff participated in NAIDOC Week celebrations around the school. NAIDOC Week is a time for celebration and reflection. It is a time to encourage students and staff to pay their respects and appreciate the oldest living culture in the world.

Lake Illawarra High School continued their tradition of transforming the school into a space that allowed students and staff to be immersed in a number cultural activities. The library hosted a number of events throughout the week. Students were able to participate in bark, rock and boomerang painting, while also engaging in a number of activities that revolved around the main theme, 'Because of her, we can.'

On Thursday 5th July, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 participated in various activities including painting, Indigenous games and cooking. Staff were also involved in Indigenous games and enjoyed a special cake in honour of our NAIDOC Week celebrations.

A massive thank you to everyone involved. Your support was key to ensuring that our students had the best possible experience and were able to gain a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. A special mention to Mr Nairn, Mary and Jo from the library for accommodating the school community.
