Year 9 City School

The three day City School experience was a great one for so many of us students. We were given the opportunity to work together and be independent with the full trust of the staff members with us. We were able to work together to make our own way across the city to get to our activities. Our activities ranged from a tram scavenger hunt to recording in a filming studio. In between our activities we were given the freedom to do our own thing in our groups with the expectation that we would get to our next activity on time. These three days we spent away from school were ones that none of us are likely to forget.

During the scavenger hunt (the tram challenge) we had to make our way to six different locations in our groups and take photos of us in front of them. We had roughly an hour to complete this and most, if not all of the groups completed the checklist with fantastic photos. This activity was very beneficial because it helped us learn how to make our way through the city on our own. It also encouraged team work, as we had to figure out which trams and/or buses to catch in order to get to where we needed to be. The tram challenge was overall very enjoyable for all students involved.

Another memorable activity was getting the opportunity to record our own radio presentations in a real recording studio. It was very beneficial because we learnt how real recording studios work and ways to captivate listeners. We were able to choose our own music to play and what topics we would speak about in between. This was a very fun teamwork exercise because we had to negotiate about what songs would be played and what topics we would talk about. This activity was so great because it taught us how radio stations function and how to create a successful recording.

Possibly the most enjoyable part of City School was going bowling, and this was so fun because we were able to choose our groups and include students from other classes. The experience was competitive but friendly, even if you went terribly, your group members would still applaud your effort. Going bowling as a group was fun for everyone.

In conclusion, the three day City School event was extremely fun and beneficial because it encouraged students to be independent, practice teamwork and manage time.

My favourite part of City School was navigating around by yourself without teachers. It gave a sense of independence, but the best activities were either the MCG tour or the bowling activity, as both were fun. The bowling alley was a cool place to go and was set up well. -Noah

My Favourite part of City School was the MCG because we had a lot of time to explore the area. We got to explore the sports museum and do a lot of fun activities. We then had a tour of the actual stadium and we got to go into the changerooms. - Matilda
