THS Athletics Carnival

On the 5th of May, Thornbury High School held the 2023 Athletics Carnival, which took place at the Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium. The students were brimming with excitement and showed support for their respective houses by dressing up in the different house colours, creating a spectacle with their range outfits.

The day's schedule was packed with a diverse range of track and field events that included sprints, long jump, discus, and many others. During the early stages of the day, a swarm of students made their way to the high jump mats, eagerly anticipating the year 12 High Jump. The atmosphere was electric as Will Green cleared the bar at a staggering height of 184cm, inviting a thunderous roar from the crowd and winning the event.

The day continued with the highly anticipated 100m sprints where we saw Blair take a commanding lead. Despite this, the students' enthusiasm soared as they gathered around the track to cheer on their classmates.

Towards the end of the day, the time-honoured tradition of the Tug of War event took place. Blair was knocked out convincingly by Onus, cutting down their lead. We saw Saunders take care of Nicholls, before falling to Onus in the final.

As the points were tallied up, the final scores were:

1st - Blair  677 points

2nd - Nicholls  633 points

3rd - Onus  578 points

4th - Saunders  471 points

Well done to all students who dressed up and participated in events, especially Year 12 Maya Duncan who earned the most points individually, significantly contributing to the win for Blair. We would also like to thank the teachers, staff and house captains who helped run the event, ensuring the day was a success.
