SAFTA French Poetry Competition

Poems in a different language are a fantastic way to connect with the cultural heritage of the people who wrote them, and the places they come from.

This year, and for the first time at Emmaus Christian College, our Junior School students had the opportunity to memorise and recite French poems and to participate in a competition organised by SAFTA (South Australian French Teachers Organisation).

There were 117 students overall from 13 different schools who participated in this competition. We had thirteen entrants to the competition across our two campuses in three different categories (1/2, 3/4 and 5/6).

Two of our students were awarded the Prix du Jury (the Jury Prize) in two categories:

Year 1/2 category: Alexander (Year 2 South Plympton)

Year 5/6 category: Zion (Year 6 Brooklyn Park)

Alexander, Zion and their families attended the Award Ceremony (Distribution des Prix Ceremony), which was held at St. Peter’s College on 26 October.

Well done Alexander and Zion!

South Australian Geography Photo Competition

Congratulations to Eli (Year 8) and Ann (Year 9) who finished joint Runner Up in the South Australian Geography Photography Competition 2022. Year 7-9 students from across South Australia were challenged to take a photo that celebrates our State as one where people want to live.

Ann and Eli were presented their awards by Minister Jayne Stinson at a ceremony at the State Library of South Australia, where their photos are being displayed in a public exhibition until 18 December. Ann captured a scene from the Illuminate Adelaide event, whilst Eli photographed a bird-watching house in Goolwa. Many competition entries were submitted from around the state including, from as far as Mount Gambier, so this is an outstanding achievement.
