Last week was very busy in the life of College sports. All of our weekly sports teams have now commenced their summer seasons, with over 20 teams playing and training on every night of the week at both South Plympton and Brooklyn Park campuses, including Saturdays.
Last Tuesday, our Middle and Senior School students participated in the Golden North SA Schools Challenge at Bridgestone Athletics Centre, Salisbury. Five teams competed across the Juniors (Under 15s), Intermediates (Under 17s) and Seniors (Under 19s) categories. This unique event is a modified athletics carnival featuring shorter and faster races, relays, and a power play system to make the competition more exciting for both competitors and spectators. This is the first time Emmaus has taken part in this event, competing against Trinity, Immanuel, Henley High and others.
The standard of competitors was very impressive, with some students being State or National champions in their events. Our teams achieved the following places:
Our Senior Boys team have qualified for the National Schools Championships that are being held in Adelaide this year on Monday 12 December. An awesome effort by all students who took part in the day!
Our Year 3/4 and 5/6 Boys and Girls (seven teams in total, combining South Plympton and Brooklyn Park students) competed at the SACSA Basketball carnivals on Tuesday and Thursday last week. Congratulations to our teams for achieving the following results:
Our teams achieved great results, highlighting that the hard work put in by the coaches and players pays off!
Year 10 PE students took part in a sports strapping unit that assessed their practical skills in strapping used for range of sports/physical pursuits. These included strapping for joints, tendons and ligaments for ankles, achilles tendons, knees (lateral/medial and Osgood Schlatter), wrist, fingers and thumbs, shoulders and elbows. Students learnt about using different types of tape and their specific properties to be used for different injured sites.
Students had an opportunity to understand how sporting clubs and specialists prevent and manage various sporting injuries for optimal player performance. Our students showed a high aptitude with some even being offered the opportunity to do this as a part-time job!
SACSA Table Tennis - In Week 3 we have Year 5 to Year 10 students competing
SACSA Touch Football - In Week 5 we have Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 students competing for the first time.
We wish them all the best!
