ISA Sport Reports: Basketball
Basketball - Round 3 - 20th February, 2021
Girls' Basketball hosted St Andrew’s Cathedral School, Redlands and local rivals St Paul’s Grammar School. The First V, Open C and Junior D teams fought hard against some very organised opposition. As we pass the halfway point of the season, all three teams will be looking to learn from the weekend’s games and approach training with renewed energy as they push for a position in the Finals. The Intermediate B and Junior B teams walked away with encouraging victories against Redlands as they strengthen their position on the ladder heading into Round 4. It is wonderful to see every team continue to demonstrate excellent teamwork and sportsmanship no matter the result.
Boys' Basketball hosted St Stanislaus College and Oakhill College. The 15s Blue team continues to produce convincing performances against strong opposition. While the 13s and 14s Blue teams were pushed from start to finish. The 13s were unable to break through despite some excellent defence in the second half, while the 14s found an extra gear to push past and snatch a well-deserved win. Our Gold teams played well against St Stanislaus College who were previously playing in Division 2. The First V and 15s Gold teams played two very tense games with both being decided in the final minutes. The Second V and 14s Gold produced some high quality team basketball to come away with victories, whilst the 13s Gold team was convincing despite having to start the game with four players; they led from start to finish to produce their best performance of the Term 1 season.
As we reach Round 4, teams will be aiming to solidify their positions on the ladder to ensure they reach the Grand Finals. This weekend all Boys' teams will be playing at home, the Girls' First V will travel to Barker and the remaining Girls' teams will play at home. We will continue to take these opportunities at home games to take Team photos in preparation for Presentation Night. Could all players – including those who are currently injured - ensure they attend your games in the correct uniform.
ISA Basketball Trials
Oliver Roberson and Lincoln Thompson represented BMGS at the ISA Boys Basketball trials. Though they did not gain selection to a team, both boys should be proud of their performances as they trialled against Division 1, 2 and 3 players.
Representative Basketball
Congratulations to the following students who have gained selection to local Representative Basketball teams. It is wonderful to see our students achieve success and further develop their skills outside of school. All students are encouraged to take up opportunities to extend themselves wherever possible.
