Senior School

As students of Blue Mountains Grammar School, our young people lead full lives. As we have begun this term together it has been a real joy to see so many of our students already deeply engaged in their learning, throwing themselves into the many and varied co-curricular activities, participating in the Swimming Carnival, and (for our Year 7s last week and our Year 9s next week) heading out to Camp. In addition, we have begun our year’s program of excursions and incursions, which teachers have carefully mapped to provide peak learning experiences in each of our courses.

The busyness of Blue Mountains Grammar School students is intentional, and goes to the heart of our understanding of the term curriculum. While in common usage curriculum refers to the government-mandated content to be taught in classrooms, it actually derives from the Latin term for a running track. We take curriculum to mean the sum total of all the experiences our students will have, that will stretch them, test them and help them grow into the young men and women we know they can become throughout their years with us at the School. Thus what our students study in Mathematics and English is vitally important, but so are the relationships they will develop on the sporting field, the faith, hope and love they will grow in Chapel, and the courage they will discover on adventures in the Blue Mountains National Park with our Wild Ed Team.

Over the course of 2021 I hope you will see that our teachers are pursuing a clear agenda of ongoing academic improvement in our classrooms. I hope you will also see the effort our teachers make in all other aspects of our School life and understand the benefits this brings to our students.
