Dive into Reading!

There is lot's going on at school this month to engage students in Reading.

Firstly, we take this opportunity to thank those that order through the Scholastic Book Club. This is a great opportunity to get new books and support your school at the same time, so thank you.

Another great opportunity to purchase some new books is through...

During Week 4 we will be hosting our Cavendish Primary School Scholastic Book Fair! This year's theme is encourage students to 'Dive into Reading'. Students will have the opportunity to view the books in the fair and create their wish list. We welcome families through on Thursday morning the 19th of May, where books can be viewed and purchases made.

The month of May is the National Family Reading Month. Teachers everywhere and Scholastic encourage students and their families to read everyday for the month of May. We would love to see what you are reading by continuing to record it in your diaries and bringing them to school each day. Scholastic shares the following message about National Family Reading Month:

'As you know, reading at home for fun has long-lasting benefits. It builds vocabulary, comprehension, and phonological awareness. Each of these skills is a prerequisite for later success in reading, but of even greater importance is that frequent, pleasurable reading time spent with family to fall in love with the joy and power of books! Celebrate reading more this May in a way that works well for your family. Make a personal reading challenge and encourage the whole family to do the same.'

Later in the month, 25th of May, our school will participate in the National Simultaneous Story time. This is an annual event where an Australian written and illustrated picture story book is chosen to read in schools, libraries, homes and other children's facilities all over the nation on the same day, at the same time. This year we will be reading 'Family Tree' written and illustrated by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh.
