Australian Animal Adventures

On Thursday, students in Years F/1 had a wonderful opportunity to participate in a special Zoom sessions with Karen from EcoLinc. She is an Australian Animal expert! We joined other F/1/2 students from Merrijig Primary School, Little Bendigo Primary School and Lake Bolac College to learn about lots of animals that live in our local area. We learnt that some animals are nocturnal, some leave footprints, others build their nests and some burrow under the ground. We learnt about classifications within the animal kingdom, different animal habitats and we talked about how we interact with the environment. We are now much more aware of animal activity in our local environment.

Some of the things we learnt are:

  • We learnt about bird poo spiders. They are spiders that are white and black and look like bird poo. They look yucky. By Jaxon.
  • Frogs can only eat with their eyes closed. We watched a frog eat some crickets really fast. By Evie.
  • Wombats are the only animal that do square poos. I learnt that butterflies come in the day and the moths come at night time. Frogs have babies that are tadpoles. By Billie.
  • I learnt that wombats do square poos and they dig very deep underground which is called a burrow. Butterflies are bright and colourful and moths are all grey and black. Frogs can jump really high and they eat with their eyes closed. Owls vomit up fur-balls. There are scientists that touch and learn about fur-balls. By Sienna.
  • I learnt that lots of animals shed their skin. I learnt that spiders can be very venomous . By Hunter
