Kitchen garden

The year 3 and 4 students have enjoyed their first kitchen Garden classes. They harvested cucumbers, herbs and tomatoes from the garden and discovered the giant zucchini which has been growing in the garden all summer. Then they came into the kitchen where they observed a food handling and a knife handling demonstration. Finally we all made Vietnamese rice paper rolls and shared them for lunch.

This week the students will enjoy cooking up a storm in the kitchen. We will finally be able to test drive the smoothie bike we won in 2019 and make hummus with it. The menu will be:

  • Rosemary Lavosh
  • Hummus
  • Raw zucchini salad
  • Summer tabbhouleh
  • Plums topped with yoghurt honey and mint

Some of the plants the students will harvest for their lunch will be:

  • Cucumber
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Basil
  • Mint
  • Parsley
  • Rosemary
  • Fennel seeds
  • Garlic
  • Plums

Happy cooking and gardening.

Cheers,

Betty
