John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear rowing families,
It has been fantastic to see good numbers and enthusiasm down at land training this week. To the rowers, it is natural for you to feel the training to be a bit tough after the festive season; however, we have great coaches that know how to get you fit and move a boat fast. Follow your coach's guidance and remember that each session is an investment in your fitness and skills. When you bring a focused attitude to each session, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve by the season's end.
New boat
It is with great excitement that I can announce that the John XXIII Rowing Club will be expecting a brand-new quad scull due to arrive in late March.
We raised $23,651 from the Head of the River last year, which includes stalls on the day and merchandise, as well as $4,883 from the Bogan Bingo fundraiser held in 2021, for a total of $28,534. This has allowed us to also purchase a brand-new set of oars to go with it.
This new addition to our fleet is a great testament to the tremendous effort and passion from all the committee members, parent helpers, and rowers over the past two years. It makes me very proud and grateful for all the hard work and commitment from our community. I’m sure that the new quad will be a symbol of what we can achieve when we pull together, on and off the water!
Stack Team App
Just a reminder, if you haven’t already, please download the ‘Stack Team App’ on your phone as this is the central place for training schedules, training updates, access to the rowing handbook, just to name a few.
It is important that all rowers and parents have access.
To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:
- Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
- Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
New absent from training procedure
Rowing hats
Can all rowers please drop off their rowing caps to me at the sports office by no later than Monday 20 February. If you miss this cut-off, the next opportunity will be at the end of the season.
South West Head of the River
Please note 25 March is our South West Head of the River Regatta in Bunbury. 2023 will see this as a Saturday regatta, therefore many families will look to travel Friday afternoon. Accommodation in Bunbury is booking up fast, therefore it is advised to look into your accommodation early. More information will be distributed in the next fortnight.
Pathways
The Schools Pathway VIII Program is a Rowing Australia initiative for the best schoolboy and schoolgirl rowers in each state to compete against each other. The aim of the Pathway VIII Program is to expose school rowers and coaches to the next level of rowing. It is a chance to experience the national rowing selection process, compete against their school counterparts from around the country, to work with high-level coaches and support staff and encourage school rowers to make the next step in their rowing pathway.
If your child in Years 11 or 12 is interested in nominating for the pathway program, more information and the nomination form can be found in the link below.
Participants must lodge an online nomination form by 5pm Friday 24 February 2023.
