4 Year Old kindergarten

Term 3

As always what a fun filled term we have had. I cannot believe we only have one more term together :( Before, we get the tissues out. Lets see all the fun we got up to in term 3!

Numeracy

This terms focus was around numeracy. These children are like sponges and surprised us all with how much they had learnt within this program. We looked at our numbers, counting, adding and subtracting as well as length, width, volume and weight.

German

Guten Tag. That’s right the children learnt  GERMAN!  What a fun learning experience this has been for all. The children showed so much interest around this which was evident in hearing them use the language within their daily practices as well as constantly asking if we were doing German today! The children learnt the following:

  • hello (Hallo), goodbye (Auf Wiedersehen) and welcome (Willcommen).
  • introducing of themselves
  • Numbers 1-10
  • Colours
  • Family members
  • Flag
  • About the country

Resilience Project

Throughout term 3 we exposed the children and families to The Resilience Project. This program focuses on three key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM), with Emotional Literacy being a foundational skill to practice these strategies. After each session the children were posed a question to answer surrounding the weeks topic. We wrote their answers into our GEM journal and invited families to have a read over. This program isn't quite finished so we will continue it during term 4, however, we have noticed a big change in the children's approach to their understanding around their emotions not only to themselves but to others around them.

Incursions & Excursions

How much fun is learning when it is hands on ... I'll tell you A LOT! Not to sure who has more fun around the incursions and excursions, but I can tell you it's not the children ;) This term we had:

  • Reptile incursion
  • Dinosaur museum incursion
  • Fire truck incursion
  • Library incursion
  • Park excursions
  • Rowville Primary School excursion

Big Chefs Little Chefs

Always a pleasure working with Sun room. The children learn so many skills working with the younger children and often take on that leadership role to further support the toddlers. Over term 3 we visited Scotland and China. The children got the chance to put their chef hats on as they created shortbread and spring rolls. YUM!
