‘BE THE KINDNESS YOU WANT TO RECEIVE’
EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Sunday 4 August, 2019
Gospel of Luke 12: 13 - 21
‘To whom will all this wealth of ours go?.’
CONFIRMATION
The dates for the Sacrament of Confirmation will occur on August 22, 23 and 24. The planning and preparation for this celebration has already begun across the two schools and parish. If you have not booked for your child, please call Adriana on 9435 8474.
Some hints for Confirmation families:
Only one pew will be reserved seating per family, if you have a large number of family and friends coming to support then they need to arrive early to get one of the limited remaining seats
No photography –either still shots or film, is allowed during the ceremony. This is a sacred time to be experienced not captured. Bishop Terry will be available for photos after each ceremony.
Candidates and sponsors need to be seated 15 minutes before the beginning of Mass.
Candidates – don’t forget to wear your stole.
If you are unsure about anything please give me a ring at school!
Last Thursday night, the Year Six students, parents and sponsors attended the Confirmation Faith night. Congratulations to all the Year Six students who presented their thoughts about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and who they see the gifts in and why. The explanations were so thoughtful and beautiful to listen to. I am sure that many people who were mentioned, felt a sense of pride and love.
We also listened to Saad Al-Kassab. He left us feeling invigorated, inspired and incredibly humbled by his pathway in life. The journey he has endured and who he has become in his life was so powerful. Saad left us with a sense that anything is possible. His message to us was very simple - life is a journey and you have to work hard because it throws one curveball after another. You dust yourself off and keep going. When you have a passion, you follow your dream.
BISHOP TERRY VISITING OUR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES
On Monday August 19, Bishop Terry Curtin will be visiting our Year Six students. He will be discussing their Sacrament of Confirmation and asking the students about the definitions the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Bishop Curtin will be visiting our school at 10.15am and spend roughly an hour with our students.
CLASS MASSES
An important and much loved part of our RE Program at St Francis Xavier has always been the Class Masses. The children enjoy being able to share this special celebration with their friends and family. Class Masses will be at 9.10am and will take place either in the classroom or the church.
Congratulations to Year 2 JE and 2 LA for their Class Mass this week. Their theme of kindness highlighted to us the need for kindness in our society today. The students openly discussed with Fr Michael how you can demonstrate kindness and act upon receiving kindness.
