When it comes to using sun protection, temperature isn't a good guide. You can’t see or feel UV but UV is the part of the sun that can damage skin and eyes and lead to skin cancer. SunSmart advises that Victoria’s UV levels start to rise from mid-August. Although not compulsory until Term Four, please remind your child to pack their hat, sunscreen and sun glasses (optional). Congratulations to our Term Three Class Leaders who received their badges at the assembly on Thursday 25 July. We look forward to this group of children demonstrating and developing their leadership skills throughout Term Three.
Grass Sports Staff working under the watchful eye of our Maintenance Officer, Michael Falzon.
Now the ground work has been completed, the guys from Grass Sports have begun the task of laying the synthetic turf. With only average Winter rainfall, the project is progressing well and Matt, our foreman is confident that the oval will be handed over by Monday 19 August. I suspect it may be even sooner if the rain holds off.
Official Opening
We have some tentative plans for the opening of the oval on Thursday 5 September.
4.30- 5.15 Sport activities on the oval (open to all ages)
5.15- 5.30 Official opening of oval with invited guests and dignatories.
Children run through a banner.
5.30- 8 Art Show Gala.
Please pencil this date into your diary and we will confirm it with you once we have the arrangements confirmed.
On Monday 29 August we hosted an afternoon tea for the staff from Our Lady Help of Christians Eltham, Holy Trinity Eltham Nth and St Francis Xavier Montmorency. This was the first time the staff from the schools in the partnered parishes of Eltham and Montmorency had an opportunity to meet together. As well as an opportunity for a meet and greet, it provided Fr Michael Sierakowski with an opportunity to share his vision for the three schools, two communities and (eventually) one parish.
Our Term Three Working Bee has been scheduled for Saturday 7 September between 9:00am and 12:00noon. Here we will be completing a variety of gardening, cleaning and maintenance tasks. As always, we will be offering hospitality afterwards. We are hoping for another great turn out as we had at our Term Two Working Bee.
Congratulations to all the children on their enthusiastic participation in the SFX Athletics Trials held at Willinda Park on Tuesday 30 August. Despite the cold, the rain held off and we were able to complete all the scheduled activities. Special thanks to Charlotte Hunter and Helen Miller for their outstanding organisation and leadership of this event. Thanks also to the SFX Staff and the students from CLC who ran the events.
Dan Egan, Guy Toomey and I took the opportunity to showcase our 'skills' on the day as well. See below videos (Click to View):

Please note: although shaken by this near miss, Daniel was not harmed in the making of this video.
Please refer to the Sport section of the newsletter for photos of the real stars of the show, our children.
