Principals message

What an amazing start to the year! Looking back on the term, it’s a good opportunity to pause and reflect on the school’s achievements to really highlight how far we have come over the last ten weeks. At the beginning of the term, we welcomed 40 new Foundation students and held a family picnic in the Napier St grounds. In classrooms, students settled into routines very quickly and enjoyed participating in the range of programs on offer. In the lead up to week 8, students worked really hard for our school concert and it was a very special event where we came together to celebrate our students and enjoyed being together as a community. Excursions and incursions across the school included a visit to the Zoo, High Rise Community Bakery, Victorian Tennis Academy, Ultra Football and Holly’s Backyard Bees. The Fitzroy Lions continued to run lunchtime soccer clinic every Monday which is always well attended and enjoyed by all. Our students also had opportunities to participate in Breakfast Club, Art club, Choir, Kitchen Garden Club and Junior School Council.

Behind the scenes we have worked together to transition classes across to the George St building and vacate all remaining furniture/items from Napier St ahead of the upcoming renovation works which are due to commence in the coming weeks.

This afternoon staff came together to celebrate the term and I reminded staff to take a well earned break over the coming weeks, in preparation for a busy term two ahead.

Staffing update

This afternoon, staff wished Amy Giles and Badria Mustafa the very best of luck with their upcoming maternity leave. We also farewell Michael Keirs as he returns to his tour guiding job in Europe. Further updates about their replacements will follow early next term.

From term two onwards, Elodie Mouwad will be taking the grade 3 class for French and team teaching with Nick Smith.

What’s coming up in term two?

  • Eid-al-Fitr celebrations
  • Student free day on Monday 2nd May for staff professional development
  • Fitzroy Lions clinic – Mondays and Thursdays at lunchtime
  • Basketball in PE – partnering with the Collingwood All Stars at Collingwood College
  • NAPLAN for grade 3 & 5s
