Kitchen Garden

In Kitchen Garden this week children explored how honey can be used to flavour food. Students prepared a salad from vegetables harvested in the garden, created honey salad dressing, and roasted vegetables with herbs and honey glaze.

One of our rotational learning tasks this week included tasting, comparing, and identifying types of honey from three types of eucalypts ( iron bark, yellow box, and red gum).

Red gum honey was voted as the favourite of both classes. Students learnt about Apiarists locating their hives in a particular forest or woodland (eg yellow box gum) and became familiar with the various eucalypt blossoms the honeybees pollinate.

A special thank you to the year 5/6 Kitchen Garden mentors who assisted this week.
