From the Senior School Sports Master

It was fantastic to see St Pius X students out representing their College in sport for the first time in a long time last weekend, albeit in a limited capacity only in Cricket.  

This weekend will see the cricketers joined by Basketball and NSTA Tennis trialists as they begin the three week Term 4 Return to Sport Program.  Our Squash players began training today for a one-day tournament on 27 November.

Details for all our sports activity this weekend can be found below and will be reinforced in our Friday Sports Assembly meetings.  

Below is a full copy of our COVID protocols for Sport this weekend.  Of most importance is the following statement:

"Under the current NSW Government COVID-19 restrictions, students aged 16 and older and all staff must be fully vaccinated to participate in intra-school, inter-school and community sport. They are required to show proof of vaccination status to the organiser on arrival."

In addition, we will only be allowing ONE spectator to attend St Pius X venues.  All indoor spectators must wear a mask.  For those involved in community sport, please follow the Community Sport Protocols.   

We will update protocols in line with government advice.

Thursday (4.00 pm - 5.00 pm)        – U12 and U13 (Junior School) during Junior School PE

All training is at Oxford Falls.

Players are to be attired in PE uniform or ISA uniform.

Bus transport departs form in front of OLD Church at 3:20 pm and returns to Anderson Street.

Squash commences this afternoon.  All players to meet at the student verandah immediately after school.

Senior Basketball

Our 2021-2022 season is finally underway and this week we look forward to hosting internal games for all players. Whilst the ISA are not running a competition this term, we have arranged a program of training, trials, internal and external games in preparation for the formal ISA season commencing in Term 1, 2022.

Training: commenced this week and will continue for the next 3 weeks. The schedule is as follows:

For Oxford Falls sessions boys will be bussed to and from the venue. The buses should return to Chatswood around 5.30 pm.

Games: Please arrive 20 mins prior to tip off to allow for uniform organisation and warm-up.

Uniform for games: Boys are to wear their St Pius X Basketball singlet (if they have one). Those without a singlet should wear their PE shirt and will be issued with a school House-colour singlet or ‘Away’ singlet prior to tip off.

NSTA Tennis

All NSTA tennis players have been allocated a rank forming an initial ladder. Any new boys to Tennis for Term 4 will need to add themselves on the bottom of the ladder. Over the next three Saturdays boys will play an opponent no more than 2 places higher or lower on the ladder. The winner of each match will claim the higher on the spot on the ladder after the match. All boys must find a new opponent and playing time each week for 1 x 45 minute match each Saturday. There will be a booking sheet on the noticeboard outside the gym (example below). It is each player's responsibility to find a match and a time each week. Matches will be confirmed at the meeting on Friday morning. Matches are between 8.00 am and midday on November 13, 20 and 27. 

At the end of this term ladder rankings will be used to select our Term 1 2022 NSTA teams.
