Winter Sports Photos

The Winter Sports photos are being taken on Tuesday November 16 during Periods 1 – 2. Full sport uniform will be required for Rugby, Football and Tennis. All other photos will be taken in full school uniform including Blazers. Attached is a summary of the photos to be taken on the day. All students need to bring their ID card for each photo they are in. See attachment for the Running Order.

All photos that have been taken in 2021 have been significantly delayed due to COVID restrictions. The Summer Sport, Year Group/Individual packages, Performing Arts and other group photos taken at the end of Term 2 are starting to be processed. Please be patient as they are all coming.

Science Club is Back!

In a very last minute decision, Science Club returned last Thursday for the first time since Term 2. The late notice meant a smaller group this time, but we welcomed some new members in both Year 7 and Year 11.

We made tea bag rockets, which the students really enjoyed and required only tea bags and matches. The Science behind these rockets is the production of convection currents when the tea bag paper cylinder is lit, which causes the final lit ash to fly up into the air and quickly extinguish. The fun was then trying to catch the ash as it floated back down again.

We also did a quick sugar carbon stack, but ran out of time... so we will repeat this at next Science Club... Thursday, Day 3 at 1.00 pm in S2.

Movember

Movember is all about raising awareness for men’s mental and physical health, including men’s suicide and testicular/prostrate cancer.

As of the commencement of November, the 2022 Well-Being Prefects alongside Mr Virgona & staff have launched the ‘Make a Move’ initiative for Movember. Students are encouraged to participate by running 60km through November to represent the 60 men we lose to suicide every hour.

During November it's important that the student body take the opportunity to change the face of men’s health. Students can use the sign-up link below to officially register for the ‘Make a Move’ initiative.

Donations to the SPX staff team: Slug Posse X would be warmly accepted: https://au.movember.com/donate/find-results/

The Pius Leadership Team plans to implement more initiatives throughout November to bring a strong sense of mindfulness and community for the students during the coming month.

Maths Drop-In

Students are welcome to attend Maths Drop-In mornings for assistance with all their maths questions and issues.

Junior Students:  Friday from 7.40 am in the Diverse Learning Room of the Junior School (across the hall from Mrs Fileman's classroom)

Senior Students:  Tuesday & Thursday from 7.40 am in C1

With assessments approaching fast, concepts are taught, practice papers are completed and problems are solved all with the company of your mates.

This is the ideal place where students can come and feel comfortable to ask questions and nut out some challenging problems. Rewards are given, laughter is heard and words of encouragement are shared. Come along and be a part of the team.

Lights, Camera, Pius!

Submissions CLOSE This Friday

On 22 November, the 6th Lights Camera Pius! Film Festival will be taking place. The festival gives you a great opportunity to get creative with your mates and even win some prizes! With restrictions easing, you can now get together with your friends and make a short film to enter, or you could even do it by yourself. The recommended time is around 2 to 3 minutes (or a really short one!) and it can be pretty much any genre, as long as it’s rated PG.

If you’d like to enter the film festival, have your film on a USB with everyone who worked on the movie listed on it. Then you can drop it in the box at the back verandah of the Student Office. The cut-off date for submissions is this Friday, 12 November, so get it in before that date. Some ideas for the films you could make could be a stop motion film using legos, a music video or just an unscripted and improvised story. It’s really up to you!
