Prayer

Ever-living God

We remember those whom you have

gathered from the storm of war

into the peace of your presence;

may that same place calm our fears

bring justice to all peoples

and establish harmony among the nations.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Blessed Edmund Rice, Pray for Us.

St Pius X, Pray for Us.

Live Jesus in our Hearts, Forever.

Book of Remembrance

During the month of November we have a Remembrance Book in the College Foyer. Families  are invited to list their loved ones for our prayers this month.

May perpetual light shine upon them and may they rest in peace.

HSC Commences

After a long preparation the HSC exams began yesterday, Tuesday 9 November, with English Paper 1 and today was English Paper 2. All students were present and all COVID-19 protocols have been in place to enable an exclusion zone, or bubble, for our HSC students. The students have been in good spirits and felt that the papers so far have been challenging but manageable.

Before handing the HSC Centre over to the Presiding Officer, I lead the students in prayer and gave the students the best wishes of all staff and parents and the Pius community for their examinations.

The final exam for our students will be held on Thursday 2 December.

This year the ATARs will be available to students on Thursday 20 January 2022. The HSC results will be issued on Monday 24 January and the College will hold a BBQ for Year 12 on 24 January 2022.

COVID-19 NSW Government Restrictions and Sport

The College continues to follow the NSW Government COVID-19 restrictions. In relation to sport, the College’s policy that students who are 16 and over must be vaccinated to play sport is directly from the NSW Government Policy. Below is the specific guideline along with the link to the NSW Government documentation.

Sport, exercise and outdoor gatherings

General rules

Sport and exercise options are significantly greater for people who are fully vaccinated.

People who are fully vaccinated can participate in an outdoor sport and exercise gathering of up to 50 people.

If you are not fully vaccinated you can participate in a gathering for sport or exercise with one other person or with your household.

https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/rules/not-fully-vaccinated#toc-sport-exercise-and-outdoor-gatherings

Under the PHO (Section 2.22) an unvaccinated adult must not participate in an outdoor public gathering of more than 2 persons.

An unvaccinated adult means a person who—

(a) is over 16 years of age, and

(b) is not a fully vaccinated person

2021 STANSW Young Scientist Award Recipient

The College was delighted to be informed this week that one of our Year 12 (2021) students, Luke Massa, has been selected as an award winner in the 2021 STANSW Young Scientist Awards for his Science Extension project: Spontaneous Knotting and the Loop Conjecture.

Luke has been working on this project for most of this year, where he investigated the effect of successive looping of strings on the spontaneous formation of knots. We hope to showcase Luke’s final project and the other Science Extension projects later this year or early next year, once the HSC examination has been completed.

Luke’s award will be announced in 2 weeks in the Young Scientist Presentation Ceremony online, where he will be also hearing from eminent scientists, Young Scientist alumni and supporters during the presentations.

The announcements will be released as a live stream on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stanswyoungscientist and videos will also be available on the website www.youngscientist.com.au

Congratulations to Luke on this fine achievement and a special thanks to his Science Extension teacher Mr Justin Donnelly, for all his work and dedication to the Science Extension program at the College this year.

Exciting News from Ex-student Will Turner
