Principal's Report

We are halfway through the term already! I have been so pleased to see the positive start that many students have made to their learning this year. I have also loved connecting with many parents and carers over the last few weeks- thank you to each of you for your support and partnership with me and our College.

What was with teachers wearing purple on Wednesday?

This week we celebrated International Women's Day with a splash of purple. Several of our Year 12 students, Phoenix Lao, Anyang Wal and Honey Bommagani joined me at the Zonta International Women's day dinner where we heard 2015 Australian of the Year, Rosie Battye's, keynote address. I would like to acknowledge the investment of all the women who have played important roles in our community as educators, advocates, carers, friends, daughters and students for the work they have done bettering themselves and the generation of women to come.

What do the teachers do when we are not at school on Curriculum Day?

This year we have a strong focus on Writing. On our recent Curriculum Day our teachers spent time learning about how to teach students the five MSC Writing skills- 1) Word Choice -choosing the best words, 2) Text Structure -organising ideas, 3) Idea Development -fully explaining ideas, 4) Language Conventions -accurate spelling and grammar, and 5) Writing Behaviour -writing independently. It is important for all students to keep thinking about their typed and handwritten writing work to keep drafting, editing and getting feedback.
