Sorry 10 Year Anniversary

Cowra High School marked the 10 year anniversary of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s apology to the Stolen Generations with a short ceremony on Tuesday.

Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, Aunty Robyn Coffey, said it was a solemn occasion.  “It was important to acknowledge the Parliamentary apology for the mistreatment of those who were Stolen Generations,” she said.

“Many families and their descendants suffered immense pain stemming from this period where they were separated from their loved ones, community and country.  This apology began the healing process for many Indigenous people in our Cowra community.”

Following an Acknowledgement to Country, school leaders spoke about the significance of Mr Rudd’s speech and raised the Aboriginal and Australian flags simultaneously while the didgeridoo played.
