Year 8 Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors

By Tammy Giblin, Head of the Arts Faculty

The annual gathering of Year 8 Shakespeare aficionados was an enjoyable Term 4 activity. The rehearsals  and preparation for this year’s performance of Bill Tordoff’s 2009 abridged version of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, was a laughter filled adventure as we rehearsed this long lost twins themed comedy! This fun and energetic Enrichment activity provides a performance ensemble opportunity for Year 8 students wanting to immerse themselves in a challenging theatre task and experience all aspects of the page to stage process. Tackling Shakespeare’s language, plot twists and theatrical conventions provides keen students with an authentic learning extension opportunity. Meeting twice a week, the team of actors and production crew worked towards a highly entertaining evening performance on November 30 for family and friends.

Dancers Fill The Farrall Centre

By Tammy Giblin, Head of the Arts Faculty

The culminating performance evening for the Semester 2 Dance classes was held on November 25. Students from Years 8-12, along with the Morris Dance group, presented their work from throughout Terms 3 and 4. Dance teachers, Casey-Rae Mullen and Lauren Grieve, were delighted so many students were willing to share their hard work with family, friends and peers. The Morris students were a fantastic audience for the afternoon performance, cheering enthusiastically at the impressive acrobatics and choreography of the older students. The dance works ranged from self choreographed solos and duets to large whole class pieces covering a wide array of dance genres - contemporary,  jazz, hip hop and ballet. With over 70 dancers performing, the energy on stage for the evening show was fantastic. It was lovely to see final performances from senior students who have studied school Dance for 4 or 5 years.
