Festival of Music Concert

"Stars in the Arena"

What an amazing night it was! “Stars in the Arena”, celebrating 130 years of the Primary Schools Music Festival, was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Magill School’s Festival Choir performed on Wednesday 8th September. Forty of our students sang in the massed choir as well as Poppy S playing violin in the orchestra and Sorcha C being one of the hosts.

The commissioned work was entitled “Water is Life” which was a series of songs composed by local musician Glyn Lehman. Glyn sang in the festival himself nearly 50 years ago, and has written several songs for the Festival of Music over the years, some in conjunction with Phil Cummings who was our visiting author this year. The songs were presented with some stunning visual effects representing the water and its different forms and the life that revolves around it. There was also a talented troupe of dancers who were performing to the “Water is Life” song cycle as well as some of the other choir songs.

During the concerts there were also a number of Guest Artists from public primary and secondary schools, other choir items that presented different musical genres, and two pieces that specifically showcased the talents of the orchestra. It just highlights the talented students and teachers in our public schools.

Many thanks to the parents and staff who supported the choir students during the year and especially with our rehearsals and concert at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
