Sports Day 2021

After an uncertain start to the day with drizzle and overcast conditions, our 2021 Sports Day went from strength to strength as the day progressed.

Students of all ages participated in a variety of games which combined enjoyment and competition, and as always the Buddy Class activities highlighted the community spirit within our school, as students young and old worked together to achieve maximum points for their team.

Our afternoon events bring our whole school together as we divide into Sports Day teams and students sing their cheers. The whole school relay to complete the day is always a highlight, as students from Reception to Year 7 race to cross the line first.

Each year the sporting spirit and community care never ceases to amaze me. Walking around class events in the morning you could hear cheers such as 'go everyone!', and comments such as 'great effort' 'well played' 'congratulations on that win' from students of all ages. This is what makes Sports Day at Magill School a unique and inspiring event in my opinion. That students can wear their colours, support their team yet acknowledge and respect the efforts of all individuals no matter their team or age. This is what our school does best - comes together to support one another, celebrate successes and achievements, and above all have a fun filled day.

While a day like this cannot go ahead without the commitment and passion of many, there are a few special mentions that must not go unnoticed. To Mike Shortt and Florin Velea - a heartfelt THANKYOU for a year's worth of organisation to make the day run smoothly for all - this day genuinely wouldn't happen without you both. To our Magill School Student Leadership Team - the work you have put in this term to lead and organise your teams has been outstanding. Your commitment to before school meetings, lunch time meetings, along with your regular fortnightly meetings has demonstrated why you were selected as leaders. It's a big responsibility and you carried yourselves and your teams with pride and confidence on the day - I'm so proud of the way you worked together and stepped up to the challenge. The final Thank you is to Milda Fahey, our Performing Arts teacher who is a whizz behind the camera lens - thank you for capturing the amazing photograph memories of the day. We hope these images bring a sense of the day to all of our families who could not be with us on the day.

Finally, congratulations Tolmer on your third win in a row - just who will take the title in 2022?
