Leadership Report

Enjoy the holidays!

As another fast-paced and busy term draws to a close at Magill, it is time for us to look back on, reflect and celebrate some wonderful events and experiences that have taken place at our school recently!

Wednesday played host to Sports Day for 2021. The weather at the start of the morning was dreary, drizzly and damp but subsided and began to hold as we neared the start. Although overcast and reasonably cool throughout we experienced another wonderful edition of Magill Sports Day! The outstanding teamwork, camaraderie and resilience on display from all Magill students was amazing! The kids competed hard but in the right spirit all day with many great individual and team performances. The results at the end of the day were incredibly close with little separating all four houses! Tolmer eventually edged out the other houses to claim their third straight victory.

A huge congratulations to all students for your efforts throughout the day. All of our team leaders also did a sensational job to pull it off without a hitch and ensure that everything ran smoothly. Thanks to all of the staff for your hard work to make the day such a success, in particular Mike Shortt and Florin Velea who put in so much work behind the scenes to make the day what it is! Finally, thank you to all parents and families for following and supporting the school by adhering to the instructions and protocols we needed to put in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all. It was very much appreciated and helped us to ensure your children had a great day!

You will be able to view a video and a range of photos in this edition of the newsletter that captures some moments from the day.

We have also recently received our 2021 NAPLAN results which have also arrived home to families of Year 3, 5 and 7 students yesterday. As a school, we are generally very happy with the results we are seeing across reading, writing and numeracy. In particular, we have seen very solid growth and improvement in our school writing results which has been a main priority within our 2019-2021 School Improvement Plan. We still have areas for improvement and are committed to making these a priority for us moving forward.

Other great school events that have taken place this term have included:

  • Bike Ed for Year 4s
  • SAPSASA Athletics, Netball, Basketball
  • Little Athletics Incursions (all Years 3-7 classes)
  • Festival of Music Performances attended by Magill Choir students
  • World of Maths Incursions for all students R-7
  • Year 6 Market Day
  • Girls in STEM project
  • Book Week Celebrations

As you can see, it's been another lively and bustling term at Magill. It is now time to rest and enjoy the holidays and have a safe and relaxing break. Everyone at school has thoroughly deserved it! See you all again in Term 4!

Kind regards,

Guy Walmsley
