Student Learning

Year 6 Market Day

As part of our learning in Business and Economics, the Year 6 classes formed small groups and created their own businesses. They were given a $40 loan to begin their business and needed to demonstrate an understanding of consumer choice in order to choose a product to create, market and sell in order to make a profit and pay back their loans.

This year due to the current climate with COVID19, students were not allowed to create food or drink items. Instead they have made products and a range of sideshow games for students to enjoy. Products included succulents, bracelets, bookmarks and stress balls. Sideshow games involved hitting targets, shooting goals and guessing games.

On Monday 13th September, after an extremely busy term learning about business, economics, consumer choice and the requirements of creating their own businesses, the Year 6 students put their products and advertising skills on show to their clientele of Years 3-7 students.

What a fantastic day it was, showcasing their learning, with all products and games proving to be a hit raising an incredible $2,248.70. The profits will be donated to the Fundraising Committee to put towards proposed projects. The Year 6 teachers couldn’t be prouder of the efforts put in by their students and the enthusiasm shown throughout the learning sequence and on selling day!
