Cricket

Cricket at College is certainly in a great place at the moment with all 8 junior teams finding themselves at the top end of the ladder at the early part of the season. Some players have been busy over the off season completing various pre seasons vying for a spot among the region’s, and state’s, best.

Hamilton District Junior Cricket Association

As we await the U/13 boys and girls, and the U/17 Boys and Girls squads we have received news about the U15 team which will play in Horsham later this year. George Austin, George Pern, Charlie Whitehead, Jake Tonissen and Jack Wortley have all been selected in the 13 player squad. A massive congratulations on your selection and we hope to hear about your successes throughout the season. It must also be noted, that Year 11 student, Riley Alexander has been named in the initial Hamilton Hurricanes senior Melbourne Country Week squad: a great achievement!  We wish him all the best with his trials.

Western Waves

Congratulations to Jack Austin, Jock Barrie and Henry Bensch (Under 14 Western Waves Boys), Oliver Wortley (Under 16 Boys), Riley Alexander (Under 18 Boys), Maddie Green, Eliza Jagger and Grace Austin (Under 17 Girls) who have been selected in the various region level squads. A special mention to Lucy Roberts, Ben McCure, Jack Wortley and Harry Austin who all made the preliminary squads however were not successful in earning a spot in the final team. No doubt these students will display one of our school’s cornerstone traits of resilience and will give themselves every opportunity to make the side next season. This weekend, the Under 14 and Under 16 boys’ teams commence their campaign with a match against Mallee Murray with their fixtures played in Horsham. The games should be scored live, so please log in through the app if you wish to follow their progress.

School Sport Victoria U/12

Harry Austin (Year Six) made it to the final cut of the U/12 School Sport Victoria Team, a great effort for someone who would technically be eligible next year based on his date of birth.

Northcote Cricket Club Pre Season Program

Throughout the pre season I was approached by the Northcote Cricket Club about the possibility of some of our upcoming Junior Players joining their pre season program, with a long term goal of playing Premier League Cricket at Northcote CC in the future. The boys and girls who made the most of the opportunity were exposed to high level coaching and were introduced to a new theme of mental skills. Mr David Reid, who currently holds the job title of ‘Mental Skills Coach’ at the Essendon Football Club, Australian Cricket Men’s and Women’s teams, along with a coaching/mental skills role at the Melbourne Stars (BBL) and the Mumbai Indians (IPL), was on hand for a number of these sessions. Dave, a sports psychologist, was able to expose all participants to the process elite sportsmen and women follow when preparing for a season. This experience was invaluable and will no doubt set these cricketers up for the 2019/2020 cricket season. SHOTCUT is a project Dave has recently been working with and has released some videos which refer to these skills. Please check out the following link should you like to know a bit more about mental skills and how to apply them to the game of cricket https://www.shotcut.net/abovetheshoulders

Melbourne Cricket Experience

A Caremonkey invitation has been sent to all U14 players inviting them to join me for the upcoming Melbourne Cricket Experience. On Thursday 19th of December, the College U14 team will travel to Melbourne to complete a training session at Junction Oval, Cricket Victoria’s premier cricket facility. We are extremely lucky to have arranged to meet Solomon Mire, former Zimbabwe ODI, T20 and Test Cricketer (however more famously known for his stint with the College Cricket Club A Grade team in 2009/2010!). Sol will be joined by Tommy Jackson, a 18 year old from Warrnambool who is currently in the Victorian State ‘Futures’ team who act as a second XI playing in a domestic competition. Tommy is a right hand hard hitting batsman who also holds the gloves for Geelong Cricket Club in their First XI, and was recently named in Victoria’s U19 team. Tommy has played in 14 First XI games for the Geelong Cricket Club and has amassed 4 centuries which has him in elite company. It won’t be long until we see him feature in the open age Victorian team, and a BBL franchise! Speaking of BBL, on the way home, we will be stopping by GMHBA Stadium and will watch the Melbourne Renegades take on Sydney Thunder in the opening round of the BBL.

College CC - 'Panel or a Picket Project'

We've had some brilliant support for our 'Panel or a Picket Project' over the past few weeks but also a few questions about what acknowledgement might look like. We've had some signs mocked up as examples of what your plaques would like if you purchase a Panel or a Picket and they're attached below.

The intention is to send all those who make a donation, a form allowing them to specify exactly what wording they would like on the plaque, within a designated character count. For businesses wanting to purchase a panel, we can have it designed to incorporate a business logo (as per the example attached). This form will be sent once we get closer to to a closing date.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to ask.
