Middle Years

The 2020 Year 7 Orientation Day was held last week and was a huge success. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to Year 6 students and welcoming them to myPEC. Special thanks to staff, Middle Years Prefects, Jackson Hodgetts and Annabel Michelmore, and the current Year 7 students who assisted on the day. I am already looking forward to next year.

We are fast approaching the End of Year Examinations, and all Middle Years students are busy preparing and revising.

Here are Elevate Study Tips for MyPEC students:

Note Taking

Notes are often too long.

Use your own words.

Use trigger headings.

Use colour to highlight notes.

Make mind maps.

Note taking steps;

Write the notes in specific revision note books.

Review notes within minutes of writing them.

Review the same notes 24 hours later.

Review the same notes twice a week.

These steps only take 5-10 minutes.

When memorising new material, students are encouraged to;

Turn phones off.

Work in a low noise environment.

Have no interruptions.

Sit at a desk.

Short sessions are better - 15 minutes on/10 minutes off.

Don’t multitask – you can’t have full attention on what you are doing.

“Effective study habits” means studying smarter and can improve your ability to better retain reading material. These habits include approaching study with the right attitude, choosing the right environment, minimizing distractions, setting a realistic schedule, and employing memory games, among others.

Last week on The Parent Website, Andrew Fuller posted an article “10 Reasons Why Your Teen Shouldn’t Drink”. I recommend all parents read the article, here is a link to the website; https://www.theparentswebsite.com.au/
