SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Congratulations to all students present at last week's swimming carnival on your participation and enthusiasm on what turned out to be a very hot day. Special mention to the House Captains and senior students in each House for the way you organised your teams on the day and coped with the chaos that is a swimming carnival. It was a great atmosphere throughout the day with the combination of competitive races as well as novelty events with the Tucan relays a sight to see.

We got through all the events with time to spare which allowed for the presentation of medals to our champion swimmers in each year level.

Year 7 Felicity Gough and Baxter Knapman

Year 8 Audrey Hannaford and Zac Akinyemi

Year 9 Macey Carlyon and Lachie Davey

Year 10 Tayla Nott and Darcy Gleeson

Year 11 Jule Hugh and Ethan Chavula

Year 12 Lilly Maxwell and Dylan Stubbs

There were three new records set on the day- Tayla Nott set a new time of 28.53 seconds in the 16 Girls 50m Freestyle [previous record was 29.16]

The trophies on the day were dominated by Mercy.

St Mary's College Ex-Students Relay Cup - Mercy 235, McAuley 225, Loreto 190, Lourdes 50

Participation Shield - Mercy 193, McAuley 157, Lourdes 125, Loreto 117

Bill Clegg Trophy for Swimming [Overall winner] - Mercy 1372, McAuley 1044, Loreto 857, Lourdes 615

St Mary's won the All Age 6 x 50m Freestyle relay for the seventh year in a row to hold on to the Armidale Diocesan Secondary Sport Council Shield for another year.

Special thanks to all the year 9/10 PASS students for their timekeeping on the day which was very efficient. They also helped pack up and clean up after the carnival with many hands making light work of what was an important job.

Congratulations to Luke Jeffrey on his selection in the combined Armidale-Lismore U15 Boys Rugby League team to compete at the Northern Country selections at South West Rocks on Wednesday March 29.

Luke played in the selection trial at Woodlawn College Lismore last week and was outstanding on the day to earn his selection in the team.
