Swimming Carnival

Monday was a great day! The weather was perfect, the students were amazing, our parent helpers were outstanding, the staff were tireless in making the day run smoothly and the spectators were greatly appreciated to help make our Swimming Carnival for 2023, a success. With the lifting of Covid restrictions, we were able to get back to some fun events and many parents watching their children participate in the carnival.

I would like to make special mention to Troy Arandale who volunteered his time by entering all the swimmers in the swimming carnival program which is used by the Redfins Swimming Club. Even though there were many last minute changes, he ensured all the races ran smoothly. Also, Keith Watts offered to be the official judge for the day. His wealth of knowledge and expertise he offered on the day was greatly appreciated. Steven McAllister and the Glen Innes Pool staff also contributed significantly in making the carnival happen. We really value your assistance.

Thank you to the following volunteers who helped us at the carnival: Linda Bruce, Sue-Ellen Cooper, Sal Floyd, Shanelle Gunther, Emma Newberry, Sandy Key, Adriana Pietsch, Scott Pietsch, Anna Villella, Joanne Wright, Nicole Watson, Brendon Watson, Tahleia Gerlofsma, Steven McAllister, Karen Correy, Sam Correy, Kylie Neville, Julie Watson, Donna McAllister and Kaitlyn Graham. The day could not have run without you!

The resurgence of the Parent/Teacher/Student Relay was great fun! I’m not sure all teams followed the rules (teachers in particular), but it was wonderful to see all the participants who jumped in and had a go. Congratulations to the winning parent team consisting of Sam and Karen Correy, as well as Nicole and Brendon Watson. You were too good for everyone! We got to witness where your kids get their swimming ability.

We were well fed and watered thanks to the Lions Van organised by the P&F, caffeinated by the Liz from Little Sunshine Café, and sweetened up thanks to Mrs Lyn Cregan. Those slices were delicious Mrs Cregan!

We tried something new this year - the Joey’s Gift in the 25m Freestyle. Our fastest swimmers from each age group were chosen to compete. Congratulations to Lucy Van der Waal who was the winner for 2023! It was exciting to watch.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who have qualified for the Armidale Diocesan Swimming Carnival held in Gunnedah on Friday the 24th February; Lucy Van der Waal, Maggie Doust, Zara Correy, Phoebe Newberry, Felicity Adams, Harriet Van der Waal, Zoe McAllister & Andy Watson. We’ll be cheering for you and know you will represent yourselves and our school with pride.

Kindergarten - Wednesday the 15th February we held a modified ‘Tadpoles Carnival’ at school run by the teachers and House Captains. We had races involving, noodles, tennis balls, sponges and even freestyle and breaststroke. Fun was had by all.

We added the Kindergarten points onto the overall House tally from the swimming carnival and at the end of the day, the winning house for the 2023 Swimming Carnival is…. MACKILLOP! Congratulations MacKillop!
