RAISE - Youth Mentoring  

WWHS students have for many years now benefitted from the RAISE mentoring program. In most cases, RAISE is delivered as a face-to-face mentoring program that matches students with local community volunteers. During Covid, the program moved online but now students are enjoying face to face engagement with local coordinator, Jess Barraket, who is this year delivering an abridged version of RAISE known as YIM, or Youth Introduction to Mentoring.

Jess explained that "The YIM program helps our young people not only gain confidence and build resilience, but also helps them to develop the skills to be able to help-seek or feel comfortable asking for help if they are struggling".

"The program gives mentees an opportunity to do some self-reflection too, which is very important when it comes to recognising and building upon our strengths in certain areas, but also helps us to acknowledge that we might need some support and guidance in other aspects of our lives".

"Each week I can see more and more enthusiasm in the program and participation levels have increased dramatically. With one of our YIM sharing that the YIM class was 'their favourite class of the week' and another that 'they liked being able to talk about their feelings'.

Next year, we look forward to delivering the full RAISE program with face-to-face mentoring on the new WWHS campus.

Please Consider Becoming a Mentor in 2023

In 2023, we are hoping to be able to make the 1:1 RAISE mentoring program available to students. To do this, we need volunteers from our community to assist. It's a wonderfully rewarding program that runs for approximately 20 weeks for just two hours a week. Full training is provided, which can be done online or face-to-face.
