Talented Trio Head To State For Lawn Bowls

It's been an exciting month of lawn bowls action and achievement for Wee Waa High School's Hunter Doring, Kyne Allen and Brock Allen.

The three talented young lawns bowls players have quickly risen through the Knockout Competition ranks that has seen them play schools around the region.

On Friday 22nd July, the boys will play Inverell to try and secure the top spot to represent the North West in the state carnival later this year.

Everyone is welcome to attend the game to support our local team.

But, It doesn't stop there! The same three boys were also successful in being selected for the State team that represented the North West this week at the Combined High Schools Championships.

There were 10 teams from across NSW. The North West team this year was a relatively young and new one with only three players having played at this level previously. The team was made up of eight students from communities including Walcha, Tamworth, Coonabarabran, Gunnedah and Wee Waa. Wee Waa High was the only school to have three representative players.

With such a young team, they were not expected to be in contention for the tops ranks, but they played incredibly well, even managing to defeat last year's gold medal winners. The trio returned home victorious on Thursday with a bronze medal in hand.

The team are to be commended on their sportsmanship and good grace on and off the green. Congratulations Kyne, Brock and Hunter!

2022 Athletics Carnival

There was a huge amount of fun and rivalry at last week's athletics carnival. Competition was strong but Merah prevailed with a score of 800 to Namoi's 721.

The highlight of the day was Jordan Lonnen jumping an incredible 1.69 metres in the high jump, narrowly missing breaking the school record.

Congratulations to all students who braved the cold and played their part in supporting their sports house and to Jordan for his mighty effort in the high jump.

North West Equestrian Expo

2022 marked the 30th anniversary of the North West Equestrian Expo.  With the exception of 2020 every year for the past 30 years each May or June an interschool Equestrian event has been staged at the Coonabarabran Showground.  The Expo is the largest High School Equestrian Event in Australia - it is also the oldest continually running event of its kind.

Three WWHS students, Billy and John Brodigan and Brittney Schwager represented Wee Waa High School and over the five days, each student competed in multiple individual and team events against students from across much of NSW.

Brittney competed in the open show jumping, working horse challenge qualifier, sporting and team penning, John competed in show jumping, working horse challenge qualifier, sporting and team penning, and Billy made it through to the finals in the working horse challenge, sporting and team penning.

Having won all four chuckkas of polocrosse, our team of three competed in finals of the polocrosse and placed forth overall. Congratulations to each of you.
