Prep News

What a wonderful week it has been! The Preps are well and truly settled and flourishing in their school life.

Investigations are providing a range of new experiences for the students as they explore the different roles of people within our community. We’re very much looking forward to the community visits that we have coming up from a Nurse, Paramedic and the Police.

We are finishing up Phase 1 of spelling and revising the letters c, a, t, n, i, p. We’ve been busing building words and practising the sounds these letters can make in our reading and writing.

In Reading, we have been looking at how letters go together to make words and how words go together to make sentences. We’ve been using the pictures and initial sounds as strategies to decode unfamiliar words and we’ve been hunting around for common words that we know.

In Writing, we’ve been using letter sounds to make words and drawing pictures to match our ideas.

In Maths, we’ve been exploring position language to describe an objects location.

A highlight of the week for us was today when we had a special ceremony to announce what House the Prep students will be in. A big thank you to our House Captains for taking the time out of their day to present the Preps with their certificates. Check out the photos below and keep an eye out for their certificate in their take home folders.

Looking forward to our first full week of school next week! We know the Preps are eager to start full time too.

Grade 1 & 2 News

Level 1 & 2 students have been enjoying making predictions while reading. They have been challenged to guess beyond the text and think about what might happen after the story has ended. In writing, students have been planning to describe Who, What, Where, When, Why and How to make a detailed news report.

Counting, writing and expanding numbers continues to be a focus. Students have completed their first Learning Task sample for their portfolios, demonstrating their understanding of numbers by constructing them in multiple ways.

You can support our Inquiry into Geography at home: Can you find a favourite shop or campsite on Google maps? It's fun to explore familiar places using a "bird's eye view"!

The 1/2 Team

Grade 3/4

The Grade 3/4 students have been loving their Biology lessons in Science this term. We have been learning all about living and non-living things and how these can be classified.

Students started the term off in the classroom by working in teams to sort toy animals in different ways. Since then, they have moved outdoors and had the opportunity to investigate various examples of living and non-living things by exploring the wide array of plants and minibeasts that our school grounds have to offer. They have carefully observed these using magnifying glasses before sketching them in their journals and classifying them based on their appearances using a classification key.

Next week, students will be creating a catch and release device in order to better observe and record a minibeast of their choice. In preparation for this, we would appreciate it if you could please keep any plastic bottles, clear fruit containers, etc. that could be temporarily used to hold a scampering minibeast and send them to school next week!

Grade 5/6 News

Hi Parents!

The past two weeks in the 5/6 Level we have been up to multiple exiting and fun activities and here are some of the examples…

2’s Day or TWOs-Day:

On the 22nd of February, [22/2/22] we got to do lots of fun activities like making a 2’s Day crowns out of paper. We wrote sentences in the shape of a big two that included lots of homophone word to, two and too. We also did an activity that involved maths and had to use lots of problem solving in groups of 2!

Making Democracy:

The past two weeks in Inquiry the 5/6’s have been learning about making democracy and the different levels of government such as:

Local, State and Federal. As well as the different positions and levels of power like the Premiers, the Prime minister, and the Governor General. While we are on this topic, we are having local government and state members coming to the school to teach 5/6’s about their experience working in democracy.

Level Sport:

The 5/6’s have had the opportunity to get to pick a sport out of soft ball, tennis, volleyball and cricket. During our level sport sessions, we have been training for the level 5/6 summer round robin, which we have all been looking forward to. We love Thursdays!

Digital Technology:

During DT this term Mr Taylor has given us a choice of activities between: Minecraft, The nibbler [wood cutter] and our newest activity, Virtual Reality [VR]!!! Inside the game you are given a pet dragon, and you get to brush it, feed it and throw it a stick. Also, there is a range of activities during the game, that mostly include trying to throw a ball into a hoop. It is so fun!!!

Photo Day:

Two weeks back, on Thursday 17th of February the whole school was called to the gym at different times for the class photos and portraits...and our silly photos! At lunch time the siblings got together at the gym to have sibling photos.

The Role of House Captains.

My name is Emma Cantlay from 5/6T and I’m going to tell you about my captaincy role. I am a house captain for Bradman house {which is green house} and here’s a bit about what House Captains do. House Captains make announcements at assembly and announce which house won for the past fortnight in house points. They also help with Athletics day and Swimming carnivals, as well as helping out Mrs Layton. Go Bradman!!!

The Role of Library Captains.

Hi, I’m Maddy, one of the library captains for 2022 and I’m going to tell you a bit about what I do as a library captain. So, the library captains do lots of stuff for the library, like scanning (borrowing and returning) books for your class and helping put books away. I’m so excited to see what I else I get to do for the year of 2022!
