Year 3-6

A healthy body helps maintain a healthy mind

Regular exercise plays a huge role in keeping us mentally well.  It releases ‘feel-good’ chemicals like dopamine, endorphins and serotonin, helping to improve mood and reduce stress.  And while our usual methods of physical activity may be temporarily unavailable there are still ways to stay active.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Go for a walk, run or cycle. Make it an adventure, explore the streets and parks in your area. Flip a coin at every intersection, heads you go right/ tails you go left - where will you end up!!
  2. Do a family yoga session.
  3. Play balloon volleyball. Try it with the teams lying on their back, hitting the balloon over a couple chairs or a broom.
  4. Build an obstacle course out of cardboard boxes or pillows.
  5. Choreograph a dance routine to your favourite song.
  6. Follow the dance moves on GoNoodle https://app.gonoodle.com/
  7. It's a great time to do a family Olympic Games: egg and spoon race, 100m sprint, best trampoline routine, long jump, high jump, triple jump, quickest across the monkey bars.
  8. Games - Hopscotch, Twister, Wii.
