Our Hampton Park Careers Newsletter is published fortnightly and has lots of information on Open Days and Industry Events – Click Here for the latest newsletter! A copy of this newsletter is pinned to the Careers Corner News Board.

VET Brochure Stand

We now have a dedicated VET Brochure Stand – (Vocational Educational & Training) with information on over 30 different VET subjects to choose from for Years 10, 11 & 12.

Next year HP will be running 6 VET courses on campus; these are Cert II in Business, Cert II in Community Services, Cert II Kitchen Operations, Cert II Outdoor Recreation, Cert III Sport and Recreation – mixed sports and Cert III Sport and Recreation – Senior Rugby Academy. There will also be an opportunity to apply for an SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship) in Parks and Gardens.

Paramedic visit to HPSC in Term 3

Next term, we look forward to hosting a session on Paramedicine. We will have a Paramedic attending the college to speak about life in the day of a paramedic. We will also research pathways and courses on how to become a qualified paramedic. See Careers staff for more details.

Year 12 Reminder

A reminder for all Year 12 students planning on applying to university for 2021, now is the time to research your chosen career pathway and courses.

VTAC.edu.au – go to course search and type in a career such as nursing or engineering etc.
Joboutlook.gov.au https://joboutlook.gov.au/ – this site shows industries and jobs that are expected to grow, average pay rates, jobs that are in demand and includes a quiz for you to do that matches your skills to jobs.
Another great website is https://myfuture.edu.au – you will need to register for this site but it has lots of interesting areas on career info. You can click on the bullseye and see similar careers associated in health/biology/social science (eg) and many more.

Log in to your Careers Tools account – under the ‘Student Secure Area’ the tab below is named “Job and Career Information”>”Job and Career Search Information” Click on this A-Z tab to search careers by name. You will find job information, course and a video.

Year 10 Course Counselling and Subject Selection

The Year 10’s have been busy learning about their interests and strengths in preparation for course counselling coming up in July. All students are encouraged to view the HP Virtual Careers Expo (CLICK HERE to view the expo) to learn more about courses available for next year- VCE or VCAL and VET subjects to compliment their studies. Career Tools Account

Did you know that each HPSC Student has their own personal Career Tools Account? This program is accessible via the Hampton Park Secondary College website and enables you to research career pathways, jobs, create a resume and lots more!

Recently we have been working with our Year 10’s, 11’s and 12’s learning about their strengths and interests and how this can help to determine suitable career pathways. We have also been researching what courses and training students need to undertake to land their dream job!

Headstart

Head Start is a program designed to help students begin an apprenticeship or traineeship whilst still at school.

The program recognises that everyone learns differently, has different interests and career goals.

Head Start lets you start learning skills for an apprenticeship or traineeship early – while still making sure that you get the real life knowledge that employers need by completing your VCE or VCAL.

When you finish school, you’ll have your VCE or VCAL as well as having finished (or be close to finishing) your training - giving you a head start on everyone else. You can choose from apprenticeships and traineeships in key industries such as building, construction, community services and health, business and primary industries. See Mr Evans in the Careers Office for further information.

Look under STUDENTS tab/scroll down to CAREERS & PATHWAYS and ‘click here to go to the HP Careers Website’ Under the first tab IMPORTANT INFO scroll down to YOUTH CENTRAL. Here you will find an abundance of information on looking for part time work.

How old do I need to be? Despite popular opinion, 14 years and 9 months is not the minimum age of employment – to be employed without a permit, a child must be 15 years.

Under the Child Employment Act 2003, children can be employed for a maximum of 3 hours per day and 12 hours per week during school term and a maximum of 6 hours per day and 30 hours per week during school holidays. These hours are inclusive of rest breaks.
