Congratulations Winudi!

Congratulations to one of our emerging young poets in Winudi Wimalasekere of Year 7 whose poem, 'A Near-Death Experience', was selected for publication in the recent Write4Fun Short Story and Poetry Competition.

Her poem will appear in their soon-to-be-published book, Inside Story. Well done!

A Near-Death Experience

As the shadows of moonlight bathed upon me,

I twisted my toes in the soft green moss.

As the wind kissed me with its impassive breeze,

A smile crept across my face.

In the twilight I could see afar,

A picturesque sea of mountains and trees.

What an enthralling sight!

Beneath that I saw me, lying in a bed,

Surrounded by a grieving set of kinfolks.

Just then I heard a soothing melody, distracting me from my view.

Being in harmony with it, the wind swayed me side by side,

As if it was telling me to dance.

I elegantly let the music flow through me,

Dancing all night with the trees beside me.

Suddenly there appeared a glimmer in the lunar lit sky,

Melting all the stars into the darkness.

As the moon crashed into the murky clouds,

An enchanting aurora intruded the area,

With an echo of a frantic whisper, ‘go back….’

A glimpse of a dark silhouette, holding a pale bony hand,

Caught by my eyes moving far away.

I thrust myself, scurried in a river of eternity,

Trying to flee for my existence.

Just then I was surrounded by my beloved once, once again...
