District Cross Country

Last Friday, the 26th of May, 56 students from Grades 3-6 headed to Ruffey Lake Park to participate in the District Cross Country Carnival.

The carnival followed our successful House Cross Country Carnival, which was won by Grevillea for the 4th time in a row. The fastest 10 boys and girls in the Under 10, 11 and 12 divisions, qualified to represent the school.

Our school did fantastically, and it is a testament to the hard work put in by all students during PE classes, and our practice session that was held at Ruffey Lake Park last Monday, which saw 31 children attend to practice.

Donvale finished in 3rd position on the day, with Templestowe Valley PS winning the competition. We do, however, have nine students that have qualified for the Divisional stage. These children being Jimmy T (under 12 boys), Anran L (under 12 girls), Lachlan M-V (under 11 boys), Madeline C (under 11 girls), Sebby S & Winnie T (under 10 boys) & Annabelle S, Sarah J & Adele S (under 10 girls). A wonderful effort by all, and Donvale have the second most students in our district that have reached the next level.

A special mention must go to Sebby S in 34F, who finished first in his race. The whole school is proud of your achievement!

A big thanks to all of the families that came to watch, assist with getting children to practice, and who assisted on the day, with Deb Waldron getting a special mention for being a course marshal. Thank you.

District Girls Football

On Wednesday May 18, 21 girls from Grade 5-6 headed to Rieschiecks Reserve to participate in the Doncaster District Girls Football Carnival.

Our girls played against teams from Doncaster Gardens, Templestowe Valley and a combined St Charles/St Kevins team.

All in all, the girls did very well, winning one game, drawing one game, and having two minor losses (the win and the draw were our last two games, so we definitely improved throughout the day!)

The District Carnival is a non-competitive day. All schools that wish to, qualify for the Divisional Carnival, which will be held on the final Wednesday of term at Zerbes Reserve in East Doncaster.

A big thank you to the families that attended to support, and in particular Sarah Rubython who assisted with the magnet board, throughout the day.

Victorian representative - Hudson Mayer

Donvale Primary School is pleased to announce that Grade 6 student, and Grevillea House Captain, Hudson Mayer, has been named in the Victorian squad for the 2023 Phil Ginsberg Trophy (Australian National Ice Hockey Championships for Under 13s).

The event is to be held between the 2nd and 5th of August this year at the O'Brien Ice House in Melbourne Docklands.

Hudson has been selected due to his strong play, commitment and sportsmanship during the current local ice hockey season and selection trials.

Donvale Primary School would like to wish Hudson all the best for his upcoming carnival.
