Welcome to our new Student Leaders

We would like to officially welcome and congratulate three new members of our Student Leadership Team. Riley Limburg, Brodie Poltorasky and Benjamin Wynen. These students were voted in by the current student leaders as vacancies became available. We look forward to working with our new members and continuing to build a strong student leadership culture at PHS.

Period Pain and Endometriosis Presentation (PPEP)

During week 7 Michelle from The Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia presented to a group of our students. The PPEP presentation provides our students with the latest in modern knowledge on managing pelvic pain. For students with pain, PPEP introduces helpful self- management strategies and guidance on where to find further good quality information. This year there was also a session for boys (year 10-12) which included information about pelvic pain for males and how to support women in their lives experiencing pain and endometriosis.

Breakfast Club

PHS Breakfast Club was launched in week 6 this term! It is being held in the Conference Room every Monday and Friday morning from 8:30- 8:50am. There will be cereal, toast and fresh fruit available to all students. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Peterborough Rotary Club for their significant contributions to assisting in the set-up of Breakfast Club. We would also like to thank Peterborough Home Hardware for their generous contributions. Breakfast Club is run with support from Food Bank who supply much of the nutritious foods that will be on offer to our students. We also welcome donations to provide a greater variety of breakfast options. For example, cereals, spreads, margarine and fruits. If you would like to contribute, feel free to drop some goods off at the front office! Many thanks to the whole community involved in creating this wonderful service for our students.

Wear it Purple Day

Friday the 27th of August Wear it Purple Day was celebrated across Australia and at PHS! Wear it Purple aims to foster a safe, supportive, empowering and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ students. Over the week we prompted conversations and looked at ways that we could all contribute to creating a safe school environment for all.

PHS Gay, Straight Alliance (GSA)

Following on from Wear it Purple Day in week 6, PHS has launched our own GSA! There will be weekly meetings held in the wellbeing room at lunchtimes. A question box has been placed in Student Services to help improve communication and these will be answered during our meetings.

PHS Lunch Clubs

This term has seen the launch of PHS Lunch Clubs. An initiative designed to offer students activities during their break times and build connectedness to school. Some of the activities on offer include Gaming Club, GSA, Magazine Committee, Craft Club and Student Leaders activities. Each Wednesday our Student Leadership Team hosts an activity. So far we have had Mat Ball, Badminton, Tchoukball and Volleyball. Included below are some of our Student Leader activities

Robyn Sherry (Pastoral Care Worker)

In the last few weeks Robyn has been onsite in Peterborough and has run two group sessions for students focussing on educated choices, healthy relationships. The aim of the sessions was to provide information and resources for students to understand changes that are happening as they go through adolescence, some of the issues and pressures they may be facing and healthy ways to deal with this. We always enjoy having Robyn onsite as well as seeing her online for her regular student meetings.

The Resilience Project

This year students are participating in the Resilience Project. Below is part 3 of the Parent Program with Martin.

Today’s presentation from The Resilience Project is all about Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is about practising a moment-to-moment awareness of thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment – with curiosity, and without judgement.

Thousands of studies have proven benefits include reduced stress, reduced rumination, increased memory, increased cognitive function and physical health benefits through improved immunity.

Mindfulness can be practiced through meditation, yoga, flow-states and daily activities such as cooking.

R U OK? DAY

R U OK? Day (Thursday 9 September, 2021) is the national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life's ups and downs. We will have activities and resources for students throughout the week to encourage each other to ask these important questions.

Headspace Youth Services in Port Pirie

Year 8/9 5 A Side Soccer

A group of year 8/9 students headed off to Booleroo earlier this term for the annual MNSEC 5 A Side Soccer Carnival. We were lucky enough to encounter some fantastic weather and great competition. Miss McCann, Miss Dunchue and Mr Robinson accompanied the students and were so proud of the way that they competed on the day and the wonderful spirit in which they played. The boys team made it through to the finals which was quite an achievement. Well done and thank you to all students who participated on the day.
