A Snapshot of what we do at Peterborough High School

Peterborough High School offers fully facilitated courses delivered by expertly trained staff in the following specialist areas.

  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Art
  • Home Economics
  • Technology
  • Science

All students get the opportunity to experience and develop skills in all of these areas in Years 8, 9 and 10 which prepares them very well and opens up options for undertaking these subjects at a SACE Level. All Junior School curriculum content follows the guidelines set out in the Australian Curriculum.

Students who transfer into PHS who have not had the opportunity to build these skills find picking up subjects at a SACE level more difficult and challenging. A number of these specialist areas / Home Ec is good example, give student’s excellent skills to undertake a Vocational Education and Training course such as Certificate 2 in Kitchen Operations in Stage 1 of SACE.

In 2020 we celebrated being awarded the Young Citizen of the Year for Peterborough for our students work with a variety of organisations in the community in the area of Hospitality

We have Certificate 2 in Engineering Pathways and Certificate 2 in Light Vehicle Servicing running from our Trade school Facility and Certificate 3 in Information Technology running online.

All Vet courses attract SACE Credits for those students who undertake them and we have a very high successful completion rate for these courses. Students are supported by the school to undertake their chosen VET course by not having to pay any fees for their Course and the school supplies clothing for workshop use, Boots and High Vis Shirts.

We also have a student doing a School Based Apprenticeship I Commercial Cookery. This student is doing this with the Roundhouse Motel here in Peterborough and attends TAFE in the Barossa one day a week. This student has effectively started their Apprenticeship while they are at school, are earning Credits towards their SACE and being paid for the hours they work at the business.

Our School also promotes and resources a University Pathway for those students who choose that pathway

We offer a Flexible approach to our Curriculum in all subject areas which can include modified but accredited programs allowing differentiation for each student to further develop their Literacy and Numeracy levels.

MacLit and individual in-classroom SSO support for identified students with literacy and numeracy issues have seen our Naplan results improve for students.

Maths, Science, History and Geography are also an integral part of the Junior Curriculum and they are well developed and target the development of student’s skills and abilities. The differentiation (tuning the curriculum to meet gaps in learning for students) is well embedded in all subjects included the ones listed above and we also have a focus on extending and challenging students to achieve above their Grade Band Level.

Building Update

We are excited to announce the internal refurbishment of our recently renovated Stone Building to become our Year 7/8 Hub. The Education Department has provided us with funding to complete this project and the builders undertaking the renovations are due to start next week.

This area will provide Year 7 and 8 students with a home base and an area they can call their own. Sets of new Lap Tops, new lockers and new furniture will be featured in this area and we are looking forward to welcoming Year 7 students to become part of our school community at the start of the 2022 school year.
