Diocesan Football Gala Day - Inverell

Last Friday, the annual Diocesan Football Gala day took place again at Inverell.  McCarthy Catholic College entered two teams - an Open Boys' squad (Years 11-12) and a Junior Boys' squad (Years 7-10).

Inverell is always glorious this time of year and this year was no exception. A brisk day full of sunshine with a slight breeze - perfect for football! The Open Boys met some strong opposition in O’Connor Catholic College and unfortunately lost the match. McCarthy were playing with one man down which didn’t help their campaign. Full credit to the McCarthy boys for soldiering on and giving their best the entire match. The team included: Nathan Watson, Daniel Stuart, Oscar Schipp, Calvin Farmilo, Rex Allan, James Awad, Harrison George, Issie Dube, Cameron Morris and Conor Noonan.

The Junior Boys' team won their first two matches convincingly, making them winners of their pool. They then met O’Connor in the grand final to play for the title. McCarthy were clearly the dominant team commanding the match with the majority of possession however, we were unable to score. This meant the game was decided with penalties. Kilian Apen was terrific for McCarthy in goals, however, we were unable to secure victory. The team played beautifully all day and it was a pleasure to take both teams away. The Junior Boys' squad included: Jack Stanton, Nguyen Nguyen, Kilian Apen, Brady Painter, Benjamin Nelson, Will Albertson, Luke Stainton, Augustin Monet, Achille Monet, Eoin Shepherd and Taine Mackay.
