Prayer and Reflection

Prayer

“I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34).

Merciful God, your model of forgiveness is my inspiration.

If you, our Creator, can overlook humankind’s shortcomings,

how can I do less?

You are a God of second chances.

You have demonstrated your compassion since the world began.

Build up in me, Lord, the same will to rid myself of anger

and to forget grievances both large and small against friends and loved ones.

Help me to understand that when I forgive

I am not denying my right to be angry.

I am merely acknowledging that right,

then moving on,

releasing myself from the emotional burden.

Thank you Lord for this great gift. Amen

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

Catholic Schools’ Week

McCarthy Catholic College was represented by the College choir and Year 11 students at the Mass for Catholic Schools' Week, celebrated at Mary Help of Christians Church on Friday 31 May. Bishop Michael Kennedy concelebrated the Mass with priests from the Southern Deanery parishes. The Bishop’s homily challenged our students to “Love one another” the way Jesus loved his disciples. The theme was also the focus of the whole College assembly prayer earlier in the week.

St Vinnies

The St. Vinnies student leaders spoke at assembly this week and launched the Vinnies Winter Appeal for 2019. On advice from the Tamworth St Vincent de Paul shop, the students are requesting donations of blankets and warm children's clothing items, to be brought into the College over the coming weeks. During the winter months, on Mondays & Fridays, the students will be selling hot chocolate in the morning before Mentor Group.

Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lochlan and Holly Bynge and Tazmin Darnell and their families following the passing of their respective grandmothers, and Joey Jamieson and his family following the passing of his grandfather.

Parish Mission Event - Bruce Downes, The Catholic Guy

‘The Catholic Guy’ Parish Mission Event was held at St Nicholas Church from 28 - 31 May 2019. During the week a number of McCarthy staff attended sessions with parishioners from the three Tamworth parishes. Year 12 Catholic Studies students also participated in one of the day-time presentations, where they heard Bruce Downes speak about the challenges and benefits of radical forgiveness.
