Year 7:

Students attended camp last week and had a great time. Thanks for your write up Caitlyn.

On Monday 3rd of May, the year 7’s went to King Lake School camp. When we first got there the weather was not the best, but nobody really cared as we were there to have fun. They had heaps of different activities like, free fall, leap of faith, giant see saw and more. On the first day we made our class a set of rules we would follow to make sure we had fun. After that we went straight to our activities. Some of the activities were to do with having good teamwork and others were just being able to have the courage to do them. I liked how we all worked together and at the same time as it being some what hard it was also fun to try.

We had the chance to do nature walks and have a late-night fire, we even had the chance to see the four wallabies they had. On our last day at camp, we did a big challenge against all the groups called wilder gaining. The point of this game was to have the most blocks by the end of the game. This was probably my best school camp I have ever been to and would love to go back again.

Year 8:

We are almost half way through the term and our students are settling in well with lots still to look forward to. It was fantastic to see our Year 8’s participate keenly in our cross country and compete to the best of their ability. They all tried extremely hard and put in their best effort even if they just walked!! Congratulations to those Year 8’s that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd and particularly those that are heading off to represent Lyndhurst in a couple of weeks.

Our “welcome back” pizza afternoon last Wednesday went very well with lots of students participating and enjoying each other’s company, the company of their teachers and of course the pizza!! The afternoon also gave us an opportunity to canvas the Year 8 students regarding activities that they would like to participate during lunch, their feedback was great and we got a variety of ideas including; lunch time sports, movie club anime club and games club. We hope to have a series of activities running throughout the term and we are starting with our Year 8 home group volley ball competition. This will see our Year 8 home groups battling it out on the volleyball courts in a home group vs home group competition. The winning home group will receive a free lunch put on by the Sub-school team.

Coming up we have our annual Athletics Day and we hope to see lots of Year 8’s once again getting involved representing their year level, house and themselves. It is a great opportunity to showcase their natural talent and engage with the wider school community.

We look forward to working with our Year 8’s for the reminder of the term bringing out the best in them, supporting them and helping them achieve their potential. Working together we can enhance their educational experience.

Year 9:

Year 9 students spent the last two weeks completing NAPLAN tests in the areas of Maths and English. They all tried their best and did a fantastic job. Families will be sent a copy of these results later in the year.

Year 9 Food technology students have focussed on safety in the kitchen and how to prepare and handle food safely, so as to prevent food poisoning. Students have used the design process to design and develop their own individual food products. They have learnt about healthy eating and the Australian Dietary Guidelines and food models, including diet related diseases that can result from poor eating and we have also looked at the different influences in our lives that help shape our future food choices.

Senior School:

It was good to see photos from an Outdoor Ed trip recently. Students experienced the lovely wonders that Wilson’s Promontory has to offer. The Year 11's hiked along the beaches from Tidal River to Picnic Bay and then up to the top of Mount Oberon to take in the glorious views. The students were also able to get up close to the friendly and sometimes destructive native wildlife.

Last month the Year 10, 11 and 12 Outdoor Ed classes went to the 1000 steps in preparation of of their hiking trips this term. All students did a great job completing the circuit, with some students putting in the extra effort by completing 2 laps.
