Year 7 Camp

Last week our Year 7's headed off to Alexandra Adventure Resort to embark on a fun-filled adventure. Some activities required them to dig deep into their bucket of courage, others required teamwork, precision and creativity. We hope that each student has walked away with skills, memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Below are a number of reports from students who attended:

On Monday 6th March the Year 7 classes A to F went to Alexandra Adventure Resort and had loads of fun. My favourite activities consisted of the flying fox, which at first I was very nervous to attempt, but I did it anyway and had loads of fun. Another activity I loved, surprisingly, was the low ropes. I found it really fun to work as a team with my activity group to attempt and complete each activity on the low ropes course. My favourite activity on the course was the balance board, where we had to balance enough people on each side to make the board sit in the middle. I very much enjoyed sitting by the campfire, roasting marshmallows and playing fun and tricky games.

Year seven camp felt sensational. No word in the English dialect can describe how fun this trip was for me. I got to do things like: climb on a 20 feet high obstacle, with only the strength of a small wire and the trust you have in yourself to keep going (as well as a harness), zip line over a dark, deep lake, and play against a team in a game of “laser tag” but more active and physical. I could name many other activities, but the one I enjoyed most was the giant swing. I went to the maximum height with the perfect amount of confidence and a harness that fit just right. When the people in my group let go of the rope, and the thick yellow string was yanked, it felt like the harness disappeared from my body and gravity made its way to pull me down back to where my feet could reach. In other words, I was flying full speed and no one could stop me. I loved it.

Last week, from Wednesday to Friday, classes 7G, 7H, 7I and 7J went to Alexandra Adventure Resort for camp. When we got there on Wednesday the staff introduced us to some of the camp rules, activities we’d be doing and the camp dog, Nala, who wandered around everywhere. The activities that I personally enjoyed were the high ropes course, flying fox, canoeing, the swimming pool and the wildlife activity that we had on the last day. Though some of the activities were challenging and outside my comfort zone, I still loved them and tried my best. Thanks to the staff for coming along and leading the camp groups, we all appreciate your help.

One of my favourite memories from camp was the giant swing. It was a great experience and I liked that everyone got to participate. The view from the top was amazing, as well as the feeling of butterflies in your stomach as the rope let go and you plunged down. Camp was an amazing experience and a lot of fun. I loved participating in all of the activities and having a go. I met new people and made many memories that I’ll never forget.
